Hello there! My name is Shannon and I am a psychotherapist rooted in contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy. In session, my approach is active while unobtrusive and curious with a sense of humor. I listen for what you want to change in your life, where you feel disconnected, and what makes you feel alive. Central to my approach is helping you move closer to vitality, however that looks for you. I remain alert to how systems of whiteness, race, gender, class, ability, and power interact and I work to acknowledge, understand, and interrogate these systems.

I graduated from Marquette University with a doctorate in counseling psychology. In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I serve as a faculty member at Carroll University in the Behavioral Health Psychology program, where I work with counselors-in-training. I am deeply committed to the training and supervision of therapists.

I see patients throughout the U.S. via telehealth and hold Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) through PSYPACT.

The core of my work is creating a safe space where clients can feel heard, respected, and understood. A full and satisfying life is unique to each person; I will collaborate with you as you move toward the life you want to live. Understanding each client’s culture, identities, and worldview is central to my approach. Not only is it important to deeply understand you as an individual, but also to explore how factors in the wider environment either promote your well-being or intensify your distress. A holistic approach to wellness involves the individual, their relationships, and their wider world.

I flexibly draw from many therapy approaches. These include mindfulness, using one’s values to guide change, fostering compassion for oneself, and exploring existential themes. I help clients become aware of patterns in their thinking, feeling, relating to themselves, and relating to others. We explore the life experiences that set these patterns in motion and how those patterns are showing up in their current life.

Finding a good fit between therapist and client is important. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so that we can discuss what is bringing you to therapy and how I might help. During this call, I welcome questions about my practice and approach to therapy.

My approach to psychotherapy centers on building a strong, collaborative relationship with you. My style is warm, curious, and engaged, and I tailor my work to your goals and needs. I draw from several therapeutic approaches, often working from a relational psychodynamic perspective: focusing on emotion, past and present relationships, and the dynamic that develops between us.

I see my role as helping guide us toward insight and meaningful progress. I listen closely, not just to what is said, but for deeper patterns and meanings. I also attend to what is happening in the present moment, exploring how familiar themes may emerge in real time within our work together.

As you begin to feel more understood and accepted, a trusting therapeutic relationship develops. Together, we can discover aspects of your experience that may not have been fully recognized or understood. This process fosters greater self-awareness and supports change—whether you are seeking immediate relief or longer-term transformation.

If you are ready to embark on a journey towards self-discovery and meaningful change, I invite you to contact me.

In addition, I offer psychodynamic, relationally informed supervision and consultation for clinicians seeking supervised hours and/or to deepen their work and gain fresh perspective on treatments that feel stalled. Please reach out to discuss services and fees.

I’m a therapist, social scientist, mom, and an immigrant from Germany. My work is shaped by existential and liberation-oriented psychological perspectives, and by a belief that our struggles are both deeply personal and shaped by the systems we live within. I work with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, women’s mental health, grief, perinatal experiences, major transitions, and counseling for people with immigration experience. I also offer counseling in German.

Therapy, to me, is about fostering an understanding of both your inner world and the wider forces that shape it—your patterns, your history, and the conditions around you that affect your life. I help people explore who they are, uncover their values and strengths, and identify what truly matters to them. It’s about facing life’s uncertainties, including the weight of a world that feels scary and unpredictable, and learning how to live an authentic life—finding a path that is meaningful, honest, and uniquely one’s own.

Every body and every story is welcome here. My approach is warm, funny, collaborative, and grounded in care, curiosity, and respect. I draw from narrative therapy, ACT, CBT, and other practices, always attentive to both the internal and external landscapes that shape your experience.

Curious, but not sure and want to learn more? Schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation and let’s get to know each other!
